This morning, a nicely modified white NSX pulled up next to me at a traffic light. It didn’t look exactly like this one, but similar. I was a bit surprised by who I saw behind the wheel.
The NSX was an earlier model with the black roof, and had a vented carbon fiber hood, front lip, side skirts, some kind of exhaust, and flat black Advan wheels. Definitely a “tuner” vibe going on.
Who was driving this tuner-fied NSX? A middle-aged white dude in a suit. I know NSXes are getting more and more expensive, and some of the mods on this one were also not cheap, but still, kinda surprising to see Bill Whiteboy, VP of Marketing at some insurance company, who has to wear a suit even on Friday, behind the wheel of this very tunerific car.
Maybe he wears his flat brimmed caps on the weekend.

I can see people looking at me like that. A 21 year old in a graphic tee, hipster glasses and skinny jeans driving a pickup with a mismatched bedcap

Lose the black hood and we got a deal.

Still not a cheap car, that sort of makes sense.
As a middle aged white guy, currently wearing a suit, I would drive that.

I used to have this cat...

26 year old white guy, not wearing a suit, would also drive the shit out of that.

But if it’s CF then it adds lightness. Maybe.

Then it should be painted to match.

Thats kind of who I was expecting to be honest.

Seriously. I know it’s not the fastest, but damn it’s got presence.

Okay, I only have one pair of skinny jeans

half the gti's I see surprise me. old ladys dudes in suits teens young girls grampas. I could see a dog driving one and not be that surprised. I guess that's why its classless and comes with a slushbox....

This...does not sound like a particularly unexpected combination.

It’s surprising how low the thing is. My 135is definitely isn’t very tall, but this guy’s roof was maybe at eye level for me in my car.

It’s surprisingly quick. The low-end torque is what surprised me most. I know a guy who out-dragged an E60 M5 in an NSX once. Them’s are right quick.

Doesn’t seem ridiculous to me. Definitely lots of random little trucks roaming around the hipsterlandia that is Brooklyn.

Way to rock it. People expect a grandpa to jump out of my 2-tone, mismatched shelled F150 too.

I often see middle-aged suburban women in supercars. More frequently than any other sort of person, actually.

I would say Me and my miata are pretty disparate. Small 1st gen miata with a 6'5" black guy. It just works though.

There’s absolutely nothing unexpected about the combination of me and my car—it’s almost a cliche.

The other day I did a hard double take when I saw what looked like a woman in her early 30’s driving an Evo 9

The other day I saw a 40-50 year old woman get out of an integra and the thing was cleeaaannn.

I had an NB for 4 years. I’m 5’11” but have broad shoulders (I tried an NA but it was too narrow for me) and I felt like it would’ve been pretty uncomfortable if I was much taller.
I bought it during college, when I was spending the summer selling cars at a big Toyota dealer. One of the sales managers, this Persian guy named Parviz with a great accent, asked me,
“Why’d you buy such a small car? You’ll look like Big Bird in this car!”

Perhaps he bought it and modded it when he was younger and just plain loves it so he’s held on to it all these years?

how does that even work? can you put the roof up?

I am a straight edged white guy, often dressed a bit nicer than most in the SF Bay Area for work. I drive a tuner car now (modded FR-S on volk replicas, almost the same wheels in said picture).

I was at a Fuddruckers years ago when a mint black AW11 rolled up and parked in the handicap spot. Out of it popped at ~70 year old woman who was all of 5ft tall and 100lbs soaking wet. Later on I went to take a look at the car and was shocked to see a 5 speed shifter sprouting from the center console.
A little old lady with some degree of disability driving a mid engine, manual transmission sports car? That was a shock.

Plenty of head room!
I've taken foam out of the seat. Widened the gas pedal. Replaced the door pull with a strap. Removed sun visors. Repositioned the parking brake. Now it fits like an f1 cockpit.

Yea, I’m a late 20’s engineer driving a mom wagon. It may have 425hp, but not everyone knows that.....

Just yesterday I saw an SN95 Saleen being driven by this frail twig of a lady who could not have been younger than 70.

I read that as “middle-aged dude in a white suit.”

I saw a minty black E30 M3 on the freeway recently; it happened to get off at the same exit as me going to a suburban big-box retail area. Got up next to it to gawk/see who was driving. Middle-aged, casually but conservatively dressed woman—think teacher/librarian/municipal office worker stopping by Costco on the way home from work. In an impeccable E30 M3. I want to meet that lady.
